Special order - Aprons to Pinafores- Cabbage Patch Doll Clothes

On Saturday, I received a request for a 'bib' apron. Since I can't send photo's on Amazon Handmade, I asked for an Amazon link to show me what she liked. My customer responded that the style she was looking for were LH on the Prairie aprons.

I got started. I knew she wanted a ruffled bottom so first I made a tie waist apron in three sizes. I didn't have a pattern so had to figure this out. I wanted to get my measurements figured out before I made the more complicated 'bib' style.

She wanted a bib that could be embroidered on so I made this style next.

I was trying to save time so got the idea instead of sewing my own ties to use bias tape for the ties.

The second one, I made with a larger bib in case she wanted more room for embroidery. This style, I made with ribbon ties.

Ribbon ties should end up being less expensive for the customer because they shorten the sewing time.

The third style was made with the skirt going all way around with full back coverage. This was made without a ruffle so a dress underneath would peek out under it.

I think my mom said that it sounded like my customer didn't really want an 'apron' but wanted a 'pinafore'.

My customer realized that she didn't have to have her pinafores made out of white solid fabric as she had previously requested.

 My pinks:

White Cottons

Polka Dots ...and a forgotten pink

Once we had a plan, I needed to know the length she wanted. I was trying to get this shorter without sacrificing the proportions of the band / skirt/ ruffle.

I told her one option was that we could eliminate the waistband which would make it shorter and take a little less time to sew.

She chose the fabrics and embroidery threads she wanted.

Monday:

The finished personalized pinafores.

I think they turned out pretty cute. They can be worn alone or over a dress. This style is the most complicated. 1) self fabric ties 2) embroidered bib 3) band at waist 4) ruffled skirt 5) bottom ruffle

These take quite a bit of time to make but I think the result is stunning!

I hope my customer likes them as much as I do!

Introducing Hope & Holden

3 Years ago, when I was dreaming about new patterns, I started realizing that I had fallen in love with doll clothes that were hooded.  My flannel Pajamas were one of my top sellers so I decided that I needed to draft a hooded pj pattern for the Bitty Baby Dolls.  My first ones had with ears but they take 50 percent longer to make so my buyers didn't want to pay that much extra for the work that was involved. There are a few of these marked down in my stores because I am not currently making Bitty Baby Clothes. I also have an Owl one for CP on Amazon that has been marked down. Without the ears ***Still cute but not as high of a price point. In March of last year, I said, "Cabbage Patch, why not?" So I drafted patterns for the 16 inch dolls.  Soon, 14 inch and preemie sizes were made. The hoods are larger on the preemie but I can specially make a smaller hood if one was wanted because I made a pattern for that too.  Last month, I realized th...

Cabbage Patch Snacktime Kid Outfit- Special Order

One Saturday night, several weeks back, I received a request for a Snacktime Kid outfit. I had never heard of that particular doll so posted on the 'Cabbage Patch Kids Buy, Sell & Trade' Group. In the meantime, I googled it and found that it was a doll that had been recalled in 1997. Evidently, not everyone returned their dolls. This doll eats plastic food and goes through her into a backpack through a hole in her back. I was awake most of the night trying to figure out how to sew this. How will I make it when I don't have the doll? Do I make a slit in the back of the outfit or somehow sew an actual hole? The next day, my customer said she wanted a Robot Snowsuit. I figured this is the one she had seen on Amazon Handmade. The one I had made was for a boy doll. I found out that her little boy had her old 16" girl doll and carried it around so I think she wanted something more 'boyish'.  I pulled out the fabric to make sure I had enough. I had ...

Ebay / Etsy / Amazon Handmade

I started selling on Ebay on January 31,2002. The first thing I made was an embroidered patriotic star denim jacket. I wish I still had a picture of that! I decided that if it sold, I would list two more things. it sold right away! I started I was sewing two things for every one thing that I sold. Everything was handmade by me. Snowsuits were my top seller that year. Soon, I had an e-bay store. I was busy for many years. I started slowing down when I had to start saying "18 doll clothes" instead of using the brand of the doll that I was selling for. I believe that hurt my business because when people would search by brand name, they would not find me. The difficult thing was other people selling handmade clothes were still using the brand name (and still do) while I had my listings pulled. This year, things slowed down so much that I was paying more for fees then I was selling. It is sad to say but I finally decided to shut down my store. -----------------...
