Ryan Bubble Romper

        Relaxing in the Ryan Romper

It is so hot in the Chicago suburbs that I decided to try a new bubble romper for my Cabbage Patch 14 inch boy.  (I think we are having record breaking temperatures of over 90 degrees.) To keep Ryan cool, I made this. Each romper will be unique depending on what fabric I use. This one is one of a kind. It is a darling blue cotton sailboat and tugboat print.

You can see the listing here:

Let's start with the fabric.

I only had a little bit left of this fabric but had enough to make this 14" romper. You only need about 13" of fabric.

My doll needed to be measured to decide how much higher to make my bloomer pattern to convert it into this romper sized pattern. I added 3" which gave plenty of crotch depth.

The center front seam was serged.

The leg bottoms were serged and 6 1/2" of elastic on each leg was basted on with a wide stitch.

Finish the leg opening by zig zagging the elastic flat.

I sewed my straps. I had cut 7"x 2" straps but really only needed about 5 3/4". I had finished the edges, sewed down the size, turned them inside out with my tube turner, and topstitched them for a nice finish.

The straps were stitched on them 1" from the center front and 3/4 inch from the center back. I had put this on the doll to decide how long they actually needed to be.

Here I am sewing down the back seam from where the hook and loop will end to the bottom of the leg opening. I had serged the edges first for a neat look.  This is the tricky part.

The hook and loop tape being applied...

Here is the finished romper. One picture is of the 14" Cabbage Patch Preemie and the other of the 14" regular sized doll.

Ryan will be keeping cool in his new bubble romper!

Ebay / Etsy / Amazon Handmade

I started selling on Ebay on January 31,2002. The first thing I made was an embroidered patriotic star denim jacket. I wish I still had a picture of that! I decided that if it sold, I would list two more things. it sold right away! I started I was sewing two things for every one thing that I sold. Everything was handmade by me. Snowsuits were my top seller that year. Soon, I had an e-bay store. I was busy for many years. I started slowing down when I had to start saying "18 doll clothes" instead of using the brand of the doll that I was selling for. I believe that hurt my business because when people would search by brand name, they would not find me. The difficult thing was other people selling handmade clothes were still using the brand name (and still do) while I had my listings pulled. This year, things slowed down so much that I was paying more for fees then I was selling. It is sad to say but I finally decided to shut down my store. -----------------...

Black Friday? How to save money on doll clothes

It is that time of year! Sellers like myself work all year to stock up for what they may need for the upcoming Christmas holiday season.  ♥ Sales: Watch for deals on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, November 30th, and December 7th (small business Saturday). Right now I am offering free shipping on $35 purchases on both Etsy and Amazon.  On E-bay, I have most items marked down to $11.99! Regular prices would be $13.99 and up. At this time of the year, I look at what I have sold last year, look at what I sold this week, and plan my sewing accordingly. Thinking toward sales, I look at what I sold last year, count up what I sold this year, and decide what needs to be marked down. Anything I haven't made in the past month could be marked down. I look over what I have and decide. The dilemma is whether people simply want me to lower my prices, put my regular prices on sale, offer shipping bundles, offer a coupon off of a certain amount of sales, or to offer free sh...
