Where Do I Begin?

My blog may be new, but Adorabledolldesigns certainly isn't!
In January 2002, the temperature only rose to 34 degrees here in Elk Grove Village, Il. 9 inches of snow covers the ground. I am in the process of listing my first item on Ebay as seller 'SEWANDEMBMOM'. Encouragement came SO quickly when that item sells that it spurs me on to keep sewing. Not long after that I have an Ebay store called ADORABLEDOLLDESIGNS.
Fast forward to May of 2017. A change is in order for me. Instead of just making 15 and 18 inch doll clothes I am inspired to purchase my first Cabbage Patch Doll.

I purchase a redhead because I am a redhead.

The first thing I do is examine the clothes that came with the doll and compare them with my sewing style.

The orange outfit came on the doll.

My existing outfit is on the right.

I personally do not care for raw edges so am happy with the quality of what I have been making. Cotton knit and Polar Fleece do not fray but cotton, flannel, and denim do so I always serge the edges on those fabrics.
After that, I started drawing patterns for this doll and constructing clothes for the 16" Cabbage Patch Girl Doll. I didn't know what to expect---but I am thrilled to report that the response was wonderful!

Introducing Hope & Holden

3 Years ago, when I was dreaming about new patterns, I started realizing that I had fallen in love with doll clothes that were hooded.  My flannel Pajamas were one of my top sellers so I decided that I needed to draft a hooded pj pattern for the Bitty Baby Dolls.  My first ones had with ears but they take 50 percent longer to make so my buyers didn't want to pay that much extra for the work that was involved. There are a few of these marked down in my stores because I am not currently making Bitty Baby Clothes. I also have an Owl one for CP on Amazon that has been marked down. Without the ears ***Still cute but not as high of a price point. In March of last year, I said, "Cabbage Patch, why not?" So I drafted patterns for the 16 inch dolls.  Soon, 14 inch and preemie sizes were made. The hoods are larger on the preemie but I can specially make a smaller hood if one was wanted because I made a pattern for that too.  Last month, I realized th...

Cabbage Patch Snacktime Kid Outfit- Special Order

One Saturday night, several weeks back, I received a request for a Snacktime Kid outfit. I had never heard of that particular doll so posted on the 'Cabbage Patch Kids Buy, Sell & Trade' Group. In the meantime, I googled it and found that it was a doll that had been recalled in 1997. Evidently, not everyone returned their dolls. This doll eats plastic food and goes through her into a backpack through a hole in her back. I was awake most of the night trying to figure out how to sew this. How will I make it when I don't have the doll? Do I make a slit in the back of the outfit or somehow sew an actual hole? The next day, my customer said she wanted a Robot Snowsuit. I figured this is the one she had seen on Amazon Handmade. The one I had made was for a boy doll. I found out that her little boy had her old 16" girl doll and carried it around so I think she wanted something more 'boyish'.  I pulled out the fabric to make sure I had enough. I had ...

Ebay / Etsy / Amazon Handmade

I started selling on Ebay on January 31,2002. The first thing I made was an embroidered patriotic star denim jacket. I wish I still had a picture of that! I decided that if it sold, I would list two more things. it sold right away! I started I was sewing two things for every one thing that I sold. Everything was handmade by me. Snowsuits were my top seller that year. Soon, I had an e-bay store. I was busy for many years. I started slowing down when I had to start saying "18 doll clothes" instead of using the brand of the doll that I was selling for. I believe that hurt my business because when people would search by brand name, they would not find me. The difficult thing was other people selling handmade clothes were still using the brand name (and still do) while I had my listings pulled. This year, things slowed down so much that I was paying more for fees then I was selling. It is sad to say but I finally decided to shut down my store. -----------------...
